Grizzlies seek upset of ninth-ranked Cougars

NCAA Basketball Betting Lines

11/23/2007 - Spokane, WA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Cougar Hispanic College Fund Classic in Spokane features a first-day matchup between the ninth-ranked Washington State Cougars and the Montana Grizzlies.

Montana has won two straight games to improve to 3-1 overall. The Grizzlies were most recently in action last Saturday, as they held off South Dakota State on the road to prevail, 70-61.

Washington State has jumped out to a 3-0 start as expected, as the team has yet to face a quality opponent. All three victories have come by double figures, including a 74-43 romp over Idaho last Friday. The Cougars pride themselves on strong defensive play, and they have held two opponents to 43 or fewer points.

Washington State owns a commanding 78-28 lead over Montana in the all-time series, and the Cougars won the most recent meeting by a score of 64-50 in 2003.

Jordan Hasquet was nothing short of outstanding for Montana in the victory over South Dakota State, as the forward scored 29 points on 12-of-19 shooting from the field. The only other double-digit scorer for the Grizzlies in that contest was Matt Martin, as he tallied 11 points. Montana connected on an even 50 percent of its field goal attempts, and the club forced South Dakota State into 24 turnovers. Hasquet is averaging 16.3 ppg and 6.0 rpg, and Martin checks in with 13.3 ppg. Montana is scoring 67.8 ppg through four outings, and the club is limiting foes to 56.0 ppg on 41.7 percent shooting from the field. The Grizzlies have attempted 19 more free throws than the opposition and committed 23 fewer turnovers.

Derrick Low and Kyle Weaver were the two best players on the Washington State team a year ago, so it is no surprise that they are the top two scorers on the roster through the first three games of this new season. Low is scoring 17.3 ppg on the strength of his 50 percent shooting from three-point range, and Weaver checks in with 12.0 ppg. Aron Baynes contributes with 10.7 ppg, and Daven Harmeling rounds out the double-digit scorers with 10.3 ppg. While the Cougars are racking up 76.0 ppg on 52.4 percent shooting from the field, they are limiting opponents to 52.7 ppg on 39.1 percent overall efficiency. In the blowout victory over Idaho, all five starters reached double figures in scoring for WSU. The Cougars limited the Vandals to 35.2 percent shooting from the field while forcing them into 17 turnovers. A 23-1 edge in points from the foul line and a 38-26 rebounding advantage also helped the cause.
